The economy of Dallas is primarily based on the petroleum industry, telecommunications, computer technology, banking, and transportation.

Dallas is at the confluence of a large number of major interstate highways. Interstates 30, Interstate 35E, and Interstae 45 all run through the city.

Summers in Dallas are very hot and humid. Winters are generally mild, with some strong cold fronts plummeting nightly lows below 30 ∞F . Winter does bring a few days of snow to Dallas. Spring and autumn bring pleasant weather with mild temperatures.

Dallas is served by two commercial airports: Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (known as DFW International) and Dallas Love Field ( DAL). In addition, Dallas Executive Airport (formerly Redbird Airport), is a general aviation airport located within the city limits. Some of the airlines servicing DFW International include Aero Mexico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Lufthansa, Northwest Airlines, Korean Air, TACA Airlines, Continental Airlines, and Delta Airlines. Dallas Love Field offers service for Southwest Airlines.

Dallas is home to the Dallas Desperados (Arena Football League), Dallas Mavericks (National Basketball Association), and Dallas Stars (National Hockey League). All three teams play at the American Airlines Center in Victory Park. The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League currently play at Texas Stadium and are relocating in 2009 to their new stadium in neighboring Arlington.

Dallas is renowned for barbecue, authentic Mexican, and Tex-Mex cuisine. Famous products of the Dallas culinary scene include the frozen margarita and the restaurants La Calle Doce, Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse, Enchilada's, Mi Cocina, and The Mansion on Turtle Creek. The French Room at the Hotel Adolphus in downtown Dallas was named as one the best hotel restaurant in the US. There are several nationally ranked steak and chop houses in Dalls including Bob's Steak & Chop House.

Dalllas offers many fine hotels and can accommodate anyone's budget. Some of these hotels include La Quinta Inn Dallas Uptown, Comfort Inn & Suites Dallas, Hotel Zaza Dallas, Hotel Indigo Dallas Downtown and West End Hotel Downtown Dallas.

Shoppers will enjoy West Village, Dallas' hip and trendy place. Comprised of an eclectic mix of boutiques as well as established retailers, West Village creates an urban like feel similar to SoHo in New York or Robertson in L.A. Along with the upscale shopping options, visitors will find one of a kind restaurants, bars and cafes.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza has welcomed visitors from around the world-people of all ages seeking information and understanding about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. The Arts District in downtown is home to several arts venues. Notable venues in the district include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, The Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas Contemporary and The Dallas Children's Theatre. The most notable event held in Dallas is the State Fair of Texas which has been held annually at Fair Park . The Dallas Convention Center is one of the largest and busiest convention centers in the country.

Also, on June 27, 2008, AT&T, the nation's largest telecommunications company announced plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to Dallas, from San Antonio.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (also known as ìUT Southwesternî) is a medical research center in Texas and is considered one of the leading academic medical centers in the world. Other universities include the University of Dallas, Dallas Baptist University and Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.

There are also private schools in Dallas, most notably Bishop Lynch High School, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, St. Mark's School of Texas, The Hockaday School, Episcopal School of Dallas, Parish Episcopal School, Bishop Dunne Catholic School, Ursuline Academy of Dallas, and First Baptist Academy of Dallas.
