Houston Texas is a sprawling city that hums with energy and the independent spirit that turned it from swampland into the fourth-largest city in the U.S.  Houston's is prominently known for its business in aerospace, oil, shipping and finance and is located between Interstate 10,  Interstate 290 and Interstate  90.

Houston weather can be brutal in the summer - hot and humid (high temps range from the 90s up to the 100s and humidity up to 100%)! Unless you really like hot weather , your best bet is to avoid May through September. The seasons really blur together, as it is a very warm climate all year long with some cold temperatures in the winter. The good news is snow is a rare occurence! 

George Bush Intercontinental Airport  (IAH) is Houston's largest airport .  This convenient passenger gateway is the largest hub airport for Continental Airlines. Houston's William P. Hobby Airport is the largest hub airport for Southwest Airlines.

The huge arenas in Houston are Reliant Arena, Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center that host  some of the sports and other large events. Houston is home to the following sports teams:  the Houston Texans (NFL), Rockets (NBA), Comets (WNBA), Astros (MLB), Aeros (NHL) and Dynamo (MLS).

An  annual event thatís very much part of the Houston culture and most popular event, is the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show. This event has been a tradition in Houston since 1932, and the three-week extravaganza at Reliant Park continues to consume the city every spring. 

Since youíre in the place that broadcast manís first step on the moon, you  may want to pay a visit to Space Center Houston, where youíll be whisked into outer space through simulations and films.

Discovery Green, Houston's new 12-acre development, is located in the "super block" in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center.  This park just opened in Spring 2008  and is actually a LEED Certified Park with  250 solar panels, a green roof, and gorgeous architecture.   The park consists  of  two restaurants at this time, The Grove and the Lake House, an amphitheater, picnic areas, dog runs, a pond, jogging trail, playground for children with a splash pad for hot days, a lake with remote controlled boats and many beautiful vibrant green spaces for personal recreation or special events.

Houston is every dinerís dream offering more than 5,000 restaurants to choose from. With more than 90 languages spoken throughout the city, Houston offers varied, cultural cuisine.

With Houston being such a large city there are numerous hotel to choose from. Just to mention a few are The Crowne Plaza Hotel Houston, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Houston Downtown Convention Center, Hilton Americas Houston, The Houstonian , and Inn at the Ballpark Houston.

The Houston Galleria Mall  is widely recognized as the number one shopping and tourist destination. It's stunning architecture, exceptional mix of quality stores, and distinctive style of entertainment are some of the reasons The Galleria attracts  millions of annual visitors. The Galleria has more than 375 fine stores and restaurants, an ice rink, and two Westin hotels - all beneath spectacular glass atriums. Some of the shops include: Neiman Marcus, Cartier, Gucci, Macy's, Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, The Sharper Image, Ralph Lauren Collection, Louis Vuitton and Houston's only Nordstrom.

Houston is the home of many  known colleges and schools such as Rice University, Texas Southern University, and Baylor College of Medicine. Houston is also home to the well known MD Anderson Cancr Center.

Houston is also the home to the prominent Pastor Joel Olsteen, who reaches over 2 million broadcast media viewers weekly. His latest and popular  book "A Better You" was released in October 2007.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of  Harris County (METRO) is recognized by transit authorities as one of the best and safest in the nation though "Renting a car in Houston" is a  must, especially if you are traveling there on vacation.  The airports are very far from most destinations and cabs would likely be cost prohibitive.  The good news is that renting a car in Houston is relatively inexpensive compared to most other large cities.

As for Real Estate in Houston, new homes are still being built throughout the Houston Area. Prices for new homes are still very reasonible for first time buyers. Some beautiful new home are being sold  from the low $100,000  price range and up.
