Norwalk is located in the southwestern part of Connecticut in Fairfield County. Norwalk has cold winters with temperatures around the 20's and warm summers with temperatures averaging close to seventy degrees Fahrenheit. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum offers educational programs and teaches about the Victorian era's social and artistic culture. The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is home to many animals of the Long Island Sound habitat and river otters, seals, jellyfish, steely sharks, loggerhead turtles, sea stars, crabs, smooth stingrays. Also, the Maritime Aquarium features an IMAX Theater, educational programs, study cruises (on a 40-feet trawler), 3-D simulator rides, special exhibits, Research Vessel Oceanic and much more.
Made up of more than twenty-five islands are the Norwalk Islands, offering outdoor activities for Norwalk's residents and visitors. Some of the outdoor activities offered by the Norwalk Islands include: boating, kayaking, camping, bird watching (on Sheffield Island), swimming, hunting (ducks and deer), and fishing (fluke, bluefish, striped bass, false albacore, flounder, trout, bonito, clams and dogfish).
Norwalk, Connecticut is home to one of the most distinguished youth symphonies in the United States. The Norwalk Youth Symphony consists of middle and high school students from Connecticut and parts of New York.
